Old Gumlog Gold Mine

| This mine was extensively worked immediately after the Civil War, and consisted of numerous tunnels, shafts and cross cuts. It had already been long abandoned by 1896, when a report stated that "all the excavations had fallen in, so any veins were hidden from view." Shortly after the turn of the century,
an attempt was made to clean out several of the old shafts, but the effort didn't amount to much. A stamp mill was located on a nearby stream. |
