This mine began operations as early as the 1830s as the England Mine. After a series of owners, it was eventually purchased and chartered in 1895 as the Plattsburgh Gold Mining & Milling Company. They cleaned out the old tunnels and added a stamp mill and other processing improvements. Unfortunately, the ore was low grade, and the mine was never particularly successful; by 1909, it was under new ownership and mostly inactive. In more recent years (early 1990s), a tourist gem-mining operation operated at the bottom of the property. Exploring the steep terrain, I found numerous open cuts, and six tunnels/adits, although two of those were collapsed and/or flooded. There are probably more, as I didn't cover the entire area. There is also a small collection of old mining equipment on the site.
