December - My second day spent exploring the route of the BRRR: |
Sign at the "66 Steps" in Warwoman Dell It is unknown whether this stairway was built at the time of the railway construction, or whether it was built by the CCC boys who occupied a nearby camp in the 1930s |
Lower section of the "66 Steps". |

Further up the Steps... |
Rounding the final bend... |
Railway cut near the top of the stone stairs. |
Interpretive panel at Warwoman Dell. |
This little waterfall empties into the creek that runs along the rail cut. |
Eastern end of the Saddle Gap Tunnel. The entrance collapsed shortly after construction and was never dug out. The western end of the tunnel was obliterated by later road construction. It is believed that some of the tunnel still exists, although inaccessible. |
Remains of a creek culvert at a section of rail grade. I don't know if this was as far as they got on this one before work was suspended, or if it was later cannibalized for the stone. |
Another stone culvert beneath the rail line. |
View looking through the same culvert. |
A nearby unknown concrete structure (of more recent vintage...) It has neither doors nor windows, but several vents in the wall. Access was through a hinged roof. Its location relative to the CCC Camp, as well as its size and the vents make me think it was an explosives storage bunker. I have seen similar structures near other CCC camps in NE Georgia. |

These stacked rocks lined both sides of a small creek at a narrow ravine across the RR line's path. I believe they were the early stages of another uncompleted culvert. |
