Ruins of the Old Souther Mill Union County, GA - December 2021 |

I haven't been able to find out much about this old gristmill in the Young Cane district. It was apparently operated by Rev. Henry Carroll in the late 1800s; his former dwelling remains standing in the general area. I couldn't find any information in any of the Union County history books. The courthouse museum has a couple of notebooks on UC gristmills that I've consulted in the past; will have to see if they have anything. I've also seen a notation that a Elihew/Elihu (Lihue) Davenport operated a grist mill on Young Cane Creek, but that may have been a different mill at another location. |

Walking back around to the front of the dam, I crossed the creek over to the other side. |
