On an old map, I'd noticed several buildings along a creek on the western side of the county. Exploring the woods, I located several of the homesites, including two with partial chimneys remaining. I also found some evidence of the old Hyatt Grist Mill. One of the old dwelling sites contained a rusted rear body of what looks like a vintage Grand Prix style auto. What it was doing way back up in the woods is anyone's guess. |

Chimney at homesite 1 (TO17), from the side. |
Probably the lintel stone, almost 4 ft. long, from Chimney 1. |
Chimney 1 from another angle with moss-covered stones from the long-collapsed stack at the rear. |
One more image of Chimney 1 Fireplace on the right, remains of collapsed stack on the left. |
Further on, I came across a couple of rectangular-shaped rock piles. |
I found no evidence of old homesteads at a couple of the mapped locations, but at the next site came across the rusted rear body of an unidentified auto. |
Looking down on the auto body from the rear. The narrow profile looks similar to a vintage Grand Prix style vehicle, or perhaps a Morgan 3-wheeler. Note the axe marks, similar to the destruction at old stills. |
Two metal contoured bucket seats... |
Two seats and the rear of the auto body. |

Part of a heat exchanger This part from the exhaust system was lying with the vehice body. I forgot to take a photo of it, but then I saw it in the corner of another photo. This image is heavily cropped from that photo. |
Not far from the auto body, I came across the remains of Chimney 2 |
Chimney 2 (Site TO18) |
40 feet from the chimney was a rectangular stack of stone about 4 ft x 8 ft x 3 feet tall. This is one of the short sides... |
And this is one of the long sides... |
Next to the big rock mound was an old dug-out cellar hole, with stacked rock supports at each corner of a long-gone building. |
I came across evidence of one other old building (TO19). The old timber base of an unknown structure. |
There were no signs of a chimney here. Perhaps this is the mill that was somewhere around here... |
You may be wondering "What about the old mill he mentioned?" At the time of my visit, I didn't recognize the evidence of what I later realized was the old Hyatt mill. I will be going back soon to examine that evidence... |
