Continuing my efforts to document the remains of our local mining history, I visited the remains of this corundum mine, located near its namesake, Mining Gap. From 1894 report: "The Hamilton Corundum Mine was noted mainly for a lawsuit in which it was involved for several years (ca 1890), and the large sum of money spent by Mr. Hamilton in its fruitless development, as brought out in court. The works consist of several prospecting pits and a perpendicular shaft about 100 feet deep. The formation is similar to that at the Track Rock Corundum Mine, though smaller." Several prospecting pits / trenches, mining waste piles, and the now-collapsed shaft remain. |

Looking right (southeast), from same side of shaft. A smaller, deadfall covered pit, is seen just beyond the main shaft. |

View S across the shaft from the N side. The small deadfall-covered pit is seen beyond the collapsed shaft |

Standing in the collapsed shaft, looking at the side wall... I wish I'd had a wider-angled lens! |
