Mountains of Tellico Page 1 - Non-Flora Cherokee National Forest, Monroe Co., TN |

Spent a great April day with Brian S exploring the upper headwaters and tributaries of the Tellico River. We visited historic, prehistoric, and geologic sites, waterfalls, and tons of wildflowers. Started out with terrible photographic conditions, but things improved as the day clouded up. This page covers the non- flora subjects (everything except flowers), while Page 2 includes examples of the wildflower blooms. Our first stop: Unusual boulder cut-outs - natural or man-made? |
We examined a number of recessed depressions on a group of trail-side boulders. |
The circular depressions are 8 - 10 inches in diameter. |
We couldn't determine if these depressions were man-made or natural. Probably natural, but what was the process? |
This boulder had a spherical cut-out in the edge of the rock. The sun and shadows made it difficult to meaningfully photograph these "cut-outs", so I have only included pictures of a few examples here... |
