Early April, 2022 A Facebook memory reminded me that it was the time of the year for ramps, so I headed up the mountain... |
A nice little waterfall, along the way... |
Flowers of Eastern Leatherwood (Dirca palustris) This species doesn't seem to be common; this was the first time I had photographed it. |
Golden Ragwort (Packera aurea) This grows like a weed along the creek banks. |
Bear Corn (Conopholis americana) |
Rue Anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides) |
The ramps were doing great. I practice sustainable harvesting, cutting just one leaf per plant and leaving the roots. |
Cutleaf Toothwort (Cardamine concatenata), growing among the ramps. The flowers are usually white but some are pink-tinged like these. |
Mossy rocks in a small creek branch... |
I always like Bloodroot flowers as they begin to open. These and the Cutleaf Toothworts were the most prevalent wildflower blooming at the higher elevations. |
Showy Orchis (Galearis spectabilis) were just starting to poke out of the leaf mulch. |
There's not much flat land up in these mountains! The creek eventually flows by our place... |
Yellow-green form of Trillium cuneatum. |
