I was invited to a site where rare (federally endangered) Small Whorled Pogonias were found, but I already had plans with our friend Joan who was visiting from Oregon. A few days later, I made this site my first stop on a multi-site botanizing and exploring day. Considering their remote location, I wondered how on earth anyone had first come across these small orchids. |

On my way to the site, I passed a number of other interesting plants in bloom. This is the male flower of Fairy Wand, aka Devil's Bit (Chamaelirium luteum). |
