Near the headwaters of Hurricane Creek: |
Unknown structures - I've not yet identified what was on this site. |
I've heard that this might have been a distillery in the 1800s, but haven't come across any documentation of that. |
It seems like there were some substantial structures here... |
But no buildings show here on the old maps I have looked at. |
Barrel remains, probably from an old still |
Princess Pine (Lycopodium sp.). |
Further downstream, there is a large rock outcrop alongside the creek. I don't know if this cave is natural or if it was tunneled by early miners. |
Rock shelter - cave. |
Another section of the outcrop... |
Hurricane Creek |
A section of the old railroad spur bed |
Getting closer to the Etowah River: |
Remains of old mineral processing operations |
More ruins... |
An old marked brick |
Large bolt embedded in a concrete structure |
Piers of the old Railroad bridge across the Etowah River |
