As the Covid-19 pandemic expanded in early 2020, a lot of folks were spending time in a semi lockdown at their homes. The homeowner at this site continued with her digging, and discovered a number of additional quarried soapstone boulders. I visited in late September 2020 to see some of her recent excavations: |
Boulders 1b and 1c, just upslope from Boulder 1 (now renamed 1a) Look at all those bowl scars! |
Boulder 1c (the one on the right in the previous image), viewed from a different angle (above / upslope). |
Boulders 1b and 1c, from a different angle than the first image on this page. |
It rained overnight, so I made a return visit the following day to see if the wet conditions might show off the bowl quarrying a little better. Except for making it muddier, it didn't really make much difference. |
Another view of Boulders 1b and 1c |
Boulder 1b |
For comparison, this is what was visible of Boulder 1b on my first visit. |
Boulder 1c |
These two protruding "ears" on one edge of Boulder 1c are visible in most of the previous images of this rock, and help to orient ones' self as to direction. But the main reason I included this view is for the next photo... |
Those two "ears" were all that was originally visible of Boulder 1c! |
In March 2021, Alan C. and I brought our archaeologist - rock art expert friend Jannie L. here for a visit. The sunny conditions were not good for rock photography, so I only took a few photos... |
Original Boulder 1, now 1a |
Boulder 1b |
Boulder 1c |
An additional Boulder (1d) at the lower site, with visible bowl quarrying. I wonder what else might be buried on this one??? |
We also visited the upper quarry site. These goats followed Alan as if he was the Pied Piper! |
Goats eating and playing. I didn't take any photos of the soapstone rocks here because there hadn't been any new finds. |
More goats... |
