1 - Allen Rock, aka Turtle Rock, Habersham County, GA: Alan & I hoped for light showers, to wet the rock and bring out the faint markings. It rained on our way to the site, but didn't last, and it was dry at the destination. |

Erosion, lichens and other surface discolorations are making the petroglyphs difficult to see. |
|
Allen Rock I keep meaning to come back here on a rainy day, and then always forget... |

2 - Hickorynut Track Rock, White County, GA Our next site produced the same difficult lighting conditions for rock photography: |
|
Boulder 1 You can see how the lighting and moss & lichen growth made it difficult to make anything of the petroglyphs. |
|
Same Boulder, with supplemental lighting Flash lighting from the side improved the view of the markings, esp. the "hand" symbols. |

Alan had much better conditions when he visited the rocks in 2013, shortly after they had been cleaned. (Photo by Alan Cressler) |

3 - Toccoa Rock (aka Tugalo Stone) Travelers Rest State Historic Site, Stephens County, GA At some time in the 1800s, this rock was moved from its original location near the river. |
