1 - Late August, 2024
When we were here in July, we had seen an unknown Liatris species. I hoped to catch it in bloom but it was still several weeks too early.

Devil's Bit, aka Fairy Wand (Chamaelirium luteum) I wanted to see if I could refind this plant that that I found blooming in June.

Julie Duncan and I found this lone Gentian here in July. I was hoping it would be in bloom by now, but it still has a ways to go.
Dense Blazing Star (Liatris spicata) These started blooming here in Mid July; they are over 5 feet tall.

This Silphium was over 8 feet tall!

I was surprised to still see fresh Crane-fly Orchids (Tipularia discolor)
Upper portion of another Liatris species, still in bud. We are thinking these are either L. scariosa or L. squarrulosa.

Upper-mid section of the other Liatris species... Will have to return in a few weeks to catch these in flower...

2 - Early September, 2024
Two and a half weeks later I was back, hoping to find the Liatris and the Gentiana in bloom.
Yay, the Liatris is blooming! We (Richard Ware & Tom Govus) decided that these were Savanna Blazing Star (Liatris scariosa).

The "finally blooming" gentian turned out to be Striped Gentian (Gentiana villosa)
While not rare, I think this is the first time I have photographed this species.
