Uncommon finds at a friend's property... I'd not seen this orchid species before, so it was a treat to find a dozen plants blooming. |

Pogonias can be confused with the Indian Cucumber Root (Medeola virginiana), which is also found here, having a similar whorl of leaves. (In fact, the Cucumber Root shares the root of its genus name, Medeola, with the Small Pogonia's specific epithet, medeoloides.) |
