A few more Fall visits to the Barrens 1 - October 4th |
I was exploring a nearby creek this day, but on my way out I spotted some Nodding Ladies' Tresses (Spiranthes cernua) along the road. Most were slightly past prime, but this one was in nice shape. |
2 - October 7th A quick visit on my way back from an exploration on Chunky Gal. |
Stiff Gentian (Gentianella quinquefolia) |
Flower detail You can see they were a little past their prime... |
Large-leaf Grass of Parnassus (Parnassia grandifolia) |
Most of these were gone by, but I found a few decent flowers |
Sourwood (Oxydendrum arboreum) in fruit |
There were still a very few Fringed Gentians (Gentianopsis crinita) in flower. |
Slender Gerardia (Agalinis tenuifolia) |

The color of both the flowers and leaves on this Gentian were odd for this location. |
The more typical Soapwort Gentian (Gentiana saponaria). |
Rhiannons Aster (Symphyotrichum rhiannon) |
Another example; these are endemic to the Buck Creek Barrens. |

Same general view as the previous image, but sunny on this day... |
