With a late summer drought, I wasn't sure how the fall wildflowers would be doing at the Barrens.
I visited one side of the site on one day, and the other side on the following day.

Day 1 - September 2019:

Canada_Burnet
Canada Burnet   (Sanguisorba canadensis)

Nuttalls_Milkwort
Curtiss' Milkwort   (Polygala curtissii)
Previously incorrectly identified here as Polygala nuttallii.

Asters
One of the larger Aster (Symphyotrichum sp.) flowers that grow at the Barrens.
There are so many Aster species here that I get confused trying to identify them...

Soapwort_Gentian
Soapwort Gentian   (Gentiana saponaria)

Soapwort_Gentian
I love the deep blue color of this population.

Soapwort_Gentian
These were looking as good as I've ever seen them.

Parnassia_grandifolia
Large-leaf Grass of Parnassus   (Parnassia grandifolia)

Parnassia_grandifolia
The Parnassia here was already past its prime...

Parnassia_grandifolia
And I'm sure the recent drought hadn't helped.   This genus prefers wet feet...

Gentianopsis
Fringed Gentian   (Gentianopsis crinita)

Gentianopsis
Only a few plants were up at this location this year.
There was some digging visible at the site; I sure hope it wasn't poachers...

Day 2 - September 2019:

Gentianopsis
Fringed Gentian   (Gentianopsis crinita)

Gentianopsis
A pollinator peaking out...

Gentianopsis
A larger population of Gentians grows here than where I was the day before...

Gentianopsis
A nice pair

A few more examples:

Gentianopsis_crinita

Gentianopsis_crinita

Parnassia_grandifolia
Parnassia grandifolia
One of the few decent blooms still remaining at this spot...

Stiff_Gentian
Stiff Gentian   (Gentianella quinquefolia)
Not as showy as the Fringed Gentians, but a nice species to come across...
