1 - April 2022 I wasn't even aware of this bog until a few days before my visit. At less than 1700 feet elevation, it's one of the lower "mountain" bogs I've photographed...

Most of Georgia's mountain bogs have some degree of sphagnum moss coverage.

Swamp Pink (Helonias bullata)

Close-up of the Swamp Pink inflorescence. It was not quite at peak bloom yet.
Purple Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia purpurea var. montana) also grow here; a new flower bud is visible in the photo.

More boggy sphagnum moss

Nearby, I spotted a row of daffodils, a sure sign of an old home place.
The remains of an old well at the homeplace. Unfortunately, there was no chimney to be found...
2 - April 2023 I was checking out a nearby old homesite, so I stopped by here first to monitor the bog.

Swamp Pink (Helonias bullata) a little past peak bloom...
There were three blooming stalks this year, after only one here last year.
