1 - Laudermilk Mill (aka Short's Mill, or Tumlin's Mill), Habersham Co., GA
This old grist mill on Hazel Creek dates from 1880; it ended operations in 1975.

The lighting was terrible, with the mill in shadow, but I did the best I could.

2 - Skeenah Creek Mill, Fannin Co., GA
Built in 1848 by Willis Rabun Woody, who brought his family to the Skeenah Valley in 1839.

Skeenah_Crk_Mill
The mill was in operation for 130 years.
Wheat, rye and corn were ground on the first floor; the second floor was a sawmill.

3 - Johnson's Mill, White County, GA
This mill was established in the 1880s,
and was in operation up until the 1940s.

A cozy log cabin sits near the Johnson Mill

The mill has a hefty wood overshot wheel to produce power.
The wheel shaft was carved from a single tree trunk.

Johnson_Mill
I didn't go inside, but apparently the millstones and milling equipment are still set up.

Johnson_Mill
A previous owner has done some partial restoration of the mill.

Covered_bridge
This covered bridge across the road is similar in design to
the Stovall covered bridge, which is also in White County.

4 - Pardue Mill (aka Perdue Mill), Habersham County, GA
The mill was built about 1930, and was operational until the mid 1960s.

Pardue Mill
The barn on the hill in back was built at the same time as the mill.

Pardue_Mill
Unfortunately, the mill pond dam has been breeched fairly recently.

Pardue_Mill
And the overshot water wheel is no longer here...

Detail of the water wheel shaft
Only one small piece of wood remains from the old water wheel.

Note the waterwheel and millrace, which no longer exist.

5 - Adair's Mill, White County, GA - ca. mid-1800s
I'd been wanting to photograph this mill for a while, but it was kind of a disappointment.

Adairs_Mill
Unfortunately the water wheel has been removed.
And the No Trespassing signs limited my shooting to one viewpoint.

Adairs_Mill
The asphalt drive doesn't exactly enhance the ambience of the old mill...

6 - Lott's Mill, White County, GA
Not a historic mill, but part of an interesting heritage farm.
