Frostweed (Verbesina virginica) I germinated Frostweed seeds for our garden in early 2019. Although the plants were still young, we had our first "bloom" of frost flowers on the first of December, 2020. |

During the first hard freezes of winter, water squeezes out of the plant's stem, forming ice ribbons and other interesting forms. |

It's easy to see why these formations are called Ice Flowers |

This one made me think of the angel's wings one makes by lying in the snow... |

Sometimes the ice extrudes along the length of the plant stalk. |

While at other spots, it forms more of a single flower cluster |
