Despite the calendar saying April, the weather forecast indicated that this afternoon would probably not be the best time to go out botanizing. Gale force winds, snow, and late blooming all combined to put the kibosh on any hopes for great success. Still, I managed to get a few shots, and any day spent outdoors is a great one! |

Showy Orchis (Galearis spectabilis) There were only a few plants with flowers opening at this elevation. |
|
Scarlet Tanager (Piranga olivacea), a bird I rarely see around here. Not the greatest photo - I spotted a pair of these birds along the trail, but I was preparing to shoot a waterfall, and had the wrong lens, wrong camera settings, a filter I didn't need, etc. By the time I changed to better settings, I only managed one shot and then the birds were gone. |

Falls at Ramp Cove This was probably a prettier spot less than a year ago, but recently a large tree fell to the base of the falls. That was bad enough, but it knocked several other trees into the waterfall. The large rootball of one is blocking the right side and a smaller one is in the falls at left. |

Trillium grandiflorum Lots of these were blooming, but tough to shoot in the wind. |

Early Meadow Rue (Thalictrum dioicum) It's a miracle that I got any pictures of these flowers with their little tassels dancing like crazy in the wind. This was the only decent image out of several attempts. |
