Old Homesite UN07 - Ivylog Mtn, Union Co., GA March 2020 The old Coleman home place. What an unbelievably steep site for a home site! A small "shelf", maybe 20x20 feet, was cut & filled into a slope of at least 45 degrees for the house to sit on. One had to scramble a couple of hundred yards either up or down to reach anything resembling a somewhat level spot.

Chimney with foundation corner walls visible at left and right foreground. Photos don't adequately convey the steepness of the slope on which this home was built.

The upper photo was taken in 1981. There were still remains of the home's original log wall corner. The lower photo, taken from a slightly different angle, shows the stones marked A & B almost 40 years later...

A boulder in the adjacent creek seems to contain a cupule.

Old Homesite TO12 - Towns Co., GA
I visited the old Harve Taylor home place on Spaniard Knob with Jerry Taylor. We found the old home site, but didn't locate the rock piles and walls which are said to be nearby.

|
The home site is on a small bench carved out of a steep hillside. The periwinkle growing prolifically here gave away the spot as a former home place.
|
|
All that's left are the vine-covered remains of the long collapsed chimney.

Old Homesite UN08 - Killian Homestead, Union Co., GA
This home site from the late 1800s is a bit different from my usual home place explorations. Rather than being located out in the woods somewhere, it is adjacent to a highway. Unfortunately, it is soon to be destroyed by the widening of this road. The thick underbrush, primarily Chinese Privet, made photography difficult. I did some clearing but the quantity of "jungle" growth limited the areas that I could document. A sketch at the end of the album shows where the individual images were taken from.
