Three Birds Orchids - August 2018 Although this day was primarily planned as a work day (to remove graffiti), Don & I lucked onto a beautiful mass blooming of Three Birds Orchids. These tiny flowers bloom for only one day, and each local colony blooms all at one time. They go through this mass blooming about 3-4 times per season, with the second bloom usually being the "big" one. That is what we saw today; we had actually missed the first bloom a week or so ago by a couple of days. The bloom time of these orchids is very difficult to predict, and over the past two years' observations, we have determined that this colony does not conform to the common prediction theories. |

I didn't see the little spider until viewing the images at home... |

Each plant can have up to three flowers blooming at once. We didn't see any triplets, but saw plenty of two-fers... |
This is by far the largest clump of Three Birds blooms I've seen. |

Before and After... Between shooting images from the outstanding Three Birds Orchid bloom, Don H. and I removed some ugly vandalism where moronic nit-wits had defaced a roadside wet cliff. |
Before - Extreme Ugliness |
After - Back to natural... |
